Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, grandson of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela launched the ‘Africa Salutes You’ series of artworks.
Nkosi Zwelivelile is Chief of Mvezo village, the village where the Mandela chieftaincy is situated and also significantly the birthplace of the world’s greatest statesman, Isithwalandwe Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
Conceptualised under the theme: 20 years of 1 man’s freedom under the African sun, the project is composed of a series of 32 paintings in acrylic and on canvas by South African artist Athol Moult. The paintings represent the 32 nations competing for the 2010 World Cup of Soccer. A 33rd canvas will be completed once the 2010 winning team is crowned champions.
The paintings are typically African and were inspired and completed by the children of Mvezo. Each painting was then endorsed by Nkosi Mandela and undersigned by Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
The key aim of this project is to develop the Mvezo area which despite its historic significance is unfortunately still one of the poorest and least developed villages in the country.
This project aims to raise funds for community projects which have been identified by Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela and his community. “It has always been the wish of my grandfather that the best way we can honour him is to develop Mvezo, the home of his ancestors.
The collection will be reproduced in a limited edition of canvases, prints, box sets and bookplates.
It is also envisaged that the ‘Africa Salute you’ project (which has also received support from President Jacob Zuma) with its aim of alleviating poverty and building infrastructure in support of government’s commitment to rural development will provide a perfect build up to the activities of the Nelson Mandela International Day to be held in Mvezo on the 18th of July 2010.
The artwork can be viewed and purchased from the Whatever-it-takes gallery at 15 on Orange Hotel, cnr Grey’s Pass and Orange Street, Cape Town, contact telephone number +27 (0) 76 412 4772.

Are the book prints available for purchase in the US?
Thanks
Hi Krista,
I have been following this and noticed that they are available in the USA through a website http://www.MandelaArt.com. They have the full selection there. I just love the modern look of them and especially fond of the USA print.
Check it out… especially with the illnesses of Mandela recently this is a good time to get your hands on a print or two :-]
All the best.
Mark
