…KATHERINE JENKINS TO TOUR SA IN MARCH 2011…
Great news for followers of classical-popular crossover music . . . . Famous Concerts is proud to announce that mezzo-soprano singing superstar Katherine Jenkins, introduced by Rand Merchant Bank, will be making her first much-anticipated visit to SA with a short tour in March next year, appearing in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Gauteng fans of Katherine Jenkins will be treated to two performances at the Sandton Convention Centre – one on Thursday 10 March, where Miss Jenkins will headline a star-studded cast of top South African artists as she performs at a Gala Charity Banquet to raise funds for various children’s causes. And on Friday 11 March, she’ll perform a full-length concert for a seated audience, accompanied by a 24-piece orchestra under the baton of the inimitable Richard Cock.
The Welsh beauty and vocal sensation will also be making two special guest appearances in Cape Town at Rand Merchant Bank’s highly popular Starlight Classics events at Vergelegen Wine Estate during the first weekend of March 2011.
SA fans are invited to experience the extraordinary and exquisite Katherine Jenkins live in concert as she sings a combination of popular light classics, a selection of familiar favourites such as “Nella Fantasia”, and “La Vie en Rose”, plus such modern greats as Sarah Maclachlan’s “Angel”, and Evanescence’s “Bring me to Life”, gearing her to a much broader audience.
Katherine Jenkins, who has signed the biggest ever record deal in the field of classical music, certainly comes to South Africa with a huge well-earned reputation. She has won two consecutive Classical Brit Album of the Year Awards for her excellent albums and five of her albums reached number one in the UK classical charts, selling more than four million copies. She was the first British classical crossover artist to have two number one albums in the same year. Miss Jenkins’ superstar status has been endorsed by performances for Her Majesty the Queen, and at the prestigious Sydney Opera House, as well as at the legendary Royal Albert Hall. She recently sang to sell-out audiences and rave reviews at London’s top venue, the spectacular O2 Arena.
The stunning beauty and friendly and charming broad appeal of Miss Jenkins even stretches into the world of sport, and is confirmed by the fact that she has regularly sung the national anthem at Welsh rugby tests as well as performed to a world-wide television audience at the recent opening ceremony of Golf’s legendary Ryder Cup Tournament.
Katherine Jenkins’ latest recordings are produced by multi Grammy award-winning guru, David Foster, who is responsible for the recording success of such other musical luminaries as Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Michael Buble and Andrea Bocelli. Prior to her first South African tour early next year, Warner MusicSA has just released a new version of Katherine Jenkins ‘Believe’ on CD/DVD, entitled Believe – The Platinum Edition. The new version includes the wonderful new single Tell Me I’m Not Dreaming and three new songs. Also included in the new package is A Year Of Believe, 60 minutes of interviews, concerts and behind-the-scenes footage.
Clearly, Katherine Jenkins’ unique and unforgettable live concerts promise a not-to-be-missed experience for fans of popular and light classical music alike.
