The critically acclaimed dancers of Bovim Ballet return to The Oude Libertas Amphitheatre (Stellenbosch) with Sean Bovim’s latest work, ROMEO’S KISS, for a short season from 14 – 19 February 2011, based on the tragic love story of Romeo & Juliet.
Romeo’s Kiss will offer audiences an exhilarating and psychological unfolding of a dramatic dance work that explores modern, yet timeless issues. Bovim is well known for his ability to entertain audiences from all walks of life through the medium of ballet and dance. The audience can expect to see the dancers translate Bovim’s vision in an energetic, fast paced yet poignant production.
Using popular versions of some of the vast Beatles repertoire, this age old story has been given a fresh and contemporary feel. The audience can expect to hear songs like: “All you need is love”, “I want to hold your hand” and “Hey Jude” to name just a few with the accomplished dancers bringing these timeless Beatles classics to life through their enviable balletic technique while being challenged by Bovim’s contemporary/modern style of choreography.
Says Bovim; “This is MTV culture meets So You Think You Can Dance, with beautifully designed Love Duets and rocking group divertissements.”
The male cast includes : Darren Greeff, Devon Marshbank, Grant Swift, James Bradley, Steven Van Wyk, Llewellyn Mnguni, and by kind permission of CAPA, Henk Opperman. They are ably accompanied by the female cast including : Kerryn Howard, Tanya Futter, Faye Dubinski, Nicola Marais, Jennifer Middleton and Elzanne Crause.
Audiences will be taken on a journey of pure nostalgia enjoying their favourite Beatles melodies whilst delighting in the dexterity of the dancers, elegantly dressed by Craig Port (male dancers) and KLûK & CGDT (female dancers).
