Barry Varkel is one of South Africa’s best-known contemporary stand-up comedians and comedy writers, and many would claim, its most influential and imitated political commentators. He was born in 1971 in Cape Town to a funny father and manipulative mother and began writing and watching shows at the age of fourteen. He started performing stand-up comedy at the age of thirty eight. He lives in Bakoven with his true love Chrissie.
