Cape Town, 12 February 2024 – As we hurtle, head first, towards Valentine’s Day, Cape Town’s Dylan Red has usurped cupid with his latest slice of feel-good summertime R&B and Afrobeat tinged songwriting genius, titled “My Love”, featuring Don Vino.
“The song is about an idealistic love, one almost beyond the need for words,” explains Dylan Red, the tracks originator. “A love on a deeper level of connection, where words don’t necessarily need to be spoken to communicate.
“It’s about realizing that you have found this kind of love, knowing what it’s worth and the putting in the effort to keep it.”
Smooth and Immediate, “My Love” teases and lulls the listener into a safe warm space, Dylan’s lyrics dancing in-between the brass, subtle backbeats, and hypnotic harmonies.
Heartfelt and touching, beats aside, “My Love” is an arresting testament to a young man’s journey in music and lived experience that promotes universal appeal.
“I wrote the song a few years ago, originally on a looper, and have essentially been sitting on it since I couldn’t find an appropriate match up with a producer,” Dylan reveals.
“Through my mentor, Martin Myers, I was able to make contact and record the song with RJ Benjamin,” he adds. “During the production process we realised the song needed a feature. Initially we were looking for a rapper or female vocalist but could not find an appropriate marriage partner,” Dylan says with a sly smile.
“Eventually I reached out to Chad Saaiman, played him the song and asked for his thoughts,” he concludes. “His immediate suggestion was Don Vino, and he arranged for us to meet and to hear the song. Don really liked it and agreed to do the feature. Now I can’t imagine the song having had any other feature artist.”
