Siphokazi Jonas to appear at the third Johannesburg Festival of Women Writers 9 March

The third edition of the Johannesburg Festival of Women Writers (JFWW) returns to the University of Johannesburg on the 9th March 2025.
Book lovers will get to celebrate women’s voices, and honour local and international writers who continue to shape the landscape of women’s writing.

Under the theme African’s Women’s Writing in the 21st Century the JFWW takes place at the UJ’s Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture [FADA] at the Bunting Campus, the event will feature discussions and sessions from a range of authors – including Athambile Masola, Makhosazana Xaba, Siphokazi Jonas,  Yewande Omotoso, Pontsho Pilane, Gail Schimmel and many others.

This year’s event will also celebrate two significant milestones: the 20th anniversary of the University of Johannesburg, as well as the 10th anniversary of the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS).

Event Highlights:

The JFWW will feature engaging panel discussions, workshops, and masterclasses facilitated by some of South Africa’s most prolific authors and academics. Attendees can look forward to:

  •  Curated Masterclasses and Workshops exploring different forms of writing, including fiction, poetry, song composition, and book reviews.
  •  Book Signings and Sales with local authors showcasing their latest works.
  •  Plenary Sessions on contemporary writing and publishing in Africa.
  •  Children’s Literature Program – Children are warmly welcomed! We will have a dedicated space with literary games and story readings designed to inspire and entertain young minds.

In line with its tradition of advancing the cause of women, this year’s festival will be specially dedicated to the writing and cultural contributions of Lauretta Ngcobo, Brigalia Bam, Mariama Ba, and Joyce Seroke.

To book and secure attendance please register HERE. Seats are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Engage with literary luminaries, take part in inter-generational conversations, and immerse yourself in the celebration of storytelling. We can’t wait to see you!
