Further On Up The Road – A Blues Reunion at Daisy Jones Bar on 13 September

Further On Up The Road – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Blues Reunion at Daisy Jones Bar

By Brian Currin

STELLENBOSCH – On Saturday, 13 September 2025, the Daisy Jones Bar at Summerhill Wines will host an extraordinary musical reunion decades in the making. “Further On Up The Road” is not just another blues concert – it’s a celebration of lifelong brotherhood, forged through years of collaboration, stage time, and shared passion for music.

This is where legends meet – Steve Louw, Willem Möller, Rob “Big Bob” Nagel, Albert Frost, Simon Orange, and more – reuniting in the town where many of their musical journeys began.

A Brotherhood Born in the Blues

It all started in the 1970s, when Steve Louw, Willem Möller, and Rob Nagel crossed paths at the Stellenbosch Folk Club. By 1983, All Night Radio was born – a raw, blues-infused band that laid the foundation for what would become Big Sky and the Blues Broers.

Rob Nagel went on to form the legendary Blues Broers in 1990, and in a remarkable twist of fate, young guitarist Albert Frost joined at just 17. After the passing of drummer Frank Frost in 1999, Albert’s mother Maggie took over as manager – and later married Rob, creating a band dynamic where, as Albert says, he’s “probably the only guitarist who’s played in the same band with two dads!”

Albert Frost’s solo journey has been equally impressive, earning a SAMA in 2017 and collaborating with many of South Africa’s finest.

The Rodriguez Connection

In 1998, Steve Louw and Willem Möller backed the enigmatic Rodriguez on his historic South African tour – a pivotal event featured in the Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man. Their performances helped bring Rodriguez’s music full circle, further solidifying the impact of South Africa’s blues community on the global stage.

Decades of Musical DNA

Simon Orange – keyboardist extraordinaire – adds yet another layer to this intertwined story. As a long-time Blues Broers member and co-founder of Frosted Orange with Albert Frost, his influence spans decades of blues collaborations. Producer, performer, and creative force, Willem Möller has also played a central role in shaping the sound of this enduring family of artists.

From the roots of All Night Radio to Big Sky’s landmark debut Waiting for the Dawn, and through countless shared lineups, albums, and live performances, these artists have never lost touch. They’ve grown together, weathered change, and remained creatively bound by their mutual love of the blues.

A Night Like No Other

“Further On Up The Road” is more than a show. It’s a living archive of South African music history. Expect an unforgettable setlist featuring tracks from The Heart’s the Best PartDevils and GodsSharp Street, and of course Waiting for the Dawn. There will also be heartfelt tributes to blues legends like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter, John Lee Hooker, and Chuck Berry.

This is a reunion born not of nostalgia, but of enduring brotherhood – a shared story told through guitars, drums, and soul.

Don’t Miss Out

This is a one-night-only event. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering these icons for the first time, “Further On Up The Road” is a chance to witness the spirit of South African blues at its finest – raw, real, and together again.
