John Hassan: A Life in Rhythm, Passion, and Purpose

For John Hassan, music is far more than sound, it’s a force of connection, culture, and inspiration. “I aim to make a positive impact on the people and the world around me,” he says, and every note he plays carries that intention.

Music as a Voice

Music has always been John’s language of expression. “Music allows me to say what I cannot put into words, while expressing moods and thoughts I don’t show to anyone,” he explains. His compositions celebrate cultures, weaving vibrant rhythms with heartfelt stories and the joy of movement that bridges generations.

A Philosophy of Growth

At the heart of his journey lies a simple motto: “Keep learning, keep growing.” With that, he embraces each challenge as an opportunity. “What I enjoy most is the constant opportunity to learn. Every project or task introduces something new, whether it’s a skill, a tool, or a fresh perspective, and that keeps me motivated and engaged.”

Fame, to John, is about more than recognition. It comes with responsibility, a responsibility to remain authentic, professional, and true to the art form. Retirement, he says, will come only when he has fully achieved his career goals and is satisfied with his contributions.

Inspiration in Nature

When he needs clarity, John turns to the outdoors. “I go to nature for inspiration. Being outdoors helps me clear my mind and sparks fresh ideas.”

On Stage and Beyond

His live performances carry surprises. “On stage, I tend to lead the audience one way, then surprise them,” he shares. Yet one song remains constant in his setlist: Peace & Love. “It’s the song I must do in every show.”

His heroes: Tito Puente, Miriam Makeba, and Gilberto Gil, shine through in his sound. His style icon is Sister Back’s SA, but his deepest admiration is reserved for his mother, whose dedication shaped his path.

A Natural Gift

Music has always been innate for John. “My natural ability to play musical instruments was given to me as a gift from the universe. When I discovered music at seven, I never stopped.” That gift has since carried him across stages worldwide, including a performance at Royal Albert Hall, where he once played for the Queen. His dream? To return there, but this time with his band, Hassan’adas.

More Than a Musician

When asked what sets him apart, John smiles: “I have a unique sound and style that sets my band apart.” If he weren’t a musician, he’d likely be a professional chef. “I like to cook,” he admits. His nickname, fittingly, is Minister of Percussion.

Defining Tastes

His playlist is as eclectic as his influences: MoribumPeace & LoveThrillerSeptember, and Pata Pata. His all-time favorite film? The Godfather. A life-changing song? Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean. And when asked what he’s drinking: it’s always whiskey on the rocks.

Life Lessons

Travel sits at the top of his bucket list: “To travel the world with Hassan’adas Project.” His greatest achievement so far has been recording and performing his own original music. The biggest lesson learned? To uphold professionalism. “Lack of professionalism is something I cannot stand. We should all be good at what we do, and if not, we should find something else to be passionate about.”

Yet his journey hasn’t been without challenges. His biggest fear is confinement. But his definition of happiness is simple: “Music.”

Wishes and Dreams

Looking ahead, John dreams of recording more original works, performing around the world, and continuing to inspire through rhythm. Whether on stage or in the studio, he remains focused, passionate, creative, determined, and driven — five words he uses to describe himself.

Above all, John Hassan is an artist of purpose. His story is one of growth, dedication, and love for music, for people, and for life itself.
