LESSONS FROM MY FATHER – A celebration of fatherhood
My good friend Steve Anderson has his book in the market published by Melinda Ferguson – “Lessons From My Father.”
I am delighted that I managed to get my dear friend Sipho Mabuse “Hotstix “ into the book as well as Siphokazi Jonas.
This has been a labour of love and dedication for Steve and I Remember clearly the time well spent with Steve and Sipho in Cape Town on the 13th May 2022 , whilst Steve was speaking to Sipho for the book.

What was to be an hour turned into a whole afternoon, filled with emotion and warmth as Sipho unpacked his story.

The book is a celebration of fatherhood.
In a world often fractured by the absence, silence and violence of fathers, this extraordinary collection reclaims the power of fatherhood through unique South African voices.
These include some of South Africa’s most loved and compelling public figures:
Protea captain Temba Bavuma, Springbok legend Nick Mallett, Olympic gold medallist Chad le Clos, Zelda la Grange, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Zolani Mahola, Lindiwe Hani, Karen Dudley, Darren Simpson, Imtiaz Sooliman and Maps Maponyane – who all recall the men who shaped them.
The chapters are not just odes to perfect dads but stories of real fathers – flawed, loving, vulnerable and brave human beings – who showed up in ways that left a mark on their sons and daughters.
At times inspiring, funny and heartbreaking, but always unflinchingly honest, this is a tribute to the fathers who got it right (and wrong).
It’s ultimately a call to today’s fathers and fathers-to-be to break the cycles of abandonment, to build connections, and to rise.
Compiled and edited by author/publisher Melinda Ferguson and educationist Steve Anderson, Lessons from My Father is more than just a book.
It’s a mirror of our country, a celebration of its fathers and a chance to honour legacies.
