MOREJAZZ SERIES IS BACK for the 5th TIME in Maputo 21 and 22 August

It is with pride that we announce that the 5TH edition of the MOREJAZZ SERIES will be held again in Maputo on Friday 21st and Saturday 22 August 2015.

The Morejazz Series was first held in 2012 with Grammy nominated smooth jazz saxophonist, Najee and his band, as the headline artist kicking off what has become a featured festival of the SADC region putting Mozambique on the cultural tourism map.

The partnership with the Polana Serena Hotel started the tradition of holding the first night of the MoreJazz Series at the hotel.

As a result of his time in Maputo, Najee penned a song called “Mafalala” which appears on his most recent album “The Morning After” released in 2013.

The second MoreJazz Series edition was also held in 2012. This time we had the honour of hosting the “Lion of Africa” – Manu Dibango and his Soul Makossa Gang. Again the first night was at the Polana Serena Hotel with the second performance at Facim with a record crowd of 35 000 people and more watching from outside the venue.

2013’s MoreJazz Series hosted US/South African Grammy nominated guitarist, Jonathan Butler and his band. The first night at the Polana Serena Hotel was graced by former First Lady Maria Da Luz Guebuza. The second night was held outdoors in a new concept street venue at Jat 5.

Last year, 2014, MoreJazz Series 4 hosted Grammy award winner Angelique Kidjo and her band. She raised the roof of the Polana Serena Hotel as well as christening two new MoreJazz venues at The Port and Folha Verde.

In addition to all these wonderful headliners, over the years we have showcased the amazing and talented young MoreJazz Big Band, regional bands from Angola and South Africa in the form of Filipe Mukenga and Hassanadas as well as some of Mozambique’s finest , Malhangalene Jazz Quartet, Isabel Novella, Joao Cabral and Tanselle to name a few.

Continuing the high standard of exceptional performers, the artists for MoreJazz Series 5 will be announced in July.
