Tweak, South Africa’s favourite band from the late 90’s to the mid-Naughties, kick off their once-off 10 anniversary tour in August with a series of shows across Johannesburg and Cape Town. The band recently reformed for a once off single, ‘The A-Team’, which got extensive play listing across radio stations in South Africa. The members of Tweak went their separate ways in 2005 and Garth and Brendan Barnes went on to put together the hugely successful rock band, CrashCarBurn. Tweak had a number of smash hits such as ‘House Party’ and ‘Birthday Card’ and have, for the first time ever, released their catalogue of albums on iTunes.

Tweak Q&A
Guys, what exactly is going on here?
Well, it’s been ten years since Tweak last performed as a band in 2005. What better reason for a couple of old ballies to get back together and re-live their teenage years? So we phoned up Oppikoppi and asked if they would be keen to have us play if we actually went ahead with it and they said ‘sure let’s do it’! Well if we’re gonna do this thing, we might as well do it properly and release a new single: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq30gp0GnOc
So is Tweak back for good?
Nope, this is one-off deal. Don’t expect to see Tweak jamming every Thursday at the Dros from here on out. Who knows, maybe we’ll do it again in another 10 years but for now, it’s just the handful of shows in August.
So it’s a reunion?
Not quite, Bugs, Chris and Garth from the original lineup will be doing the shows. We’re calling it an ‘Anniversary tour’.
What does this mean for CrashCarBurn?
CrashCarBurn is still going strong! In fact we’re busy working on an album and should have a new single out in the next month. On that note, can I just say thanks to the other CrashCarBurn guys @etienne and @Jaco for indulging us as we take this little detour. They have been super supportive and are pretty much the raddest dudes anyone could ever wish to be in a band with!
Is Oppikoppi the only show?
Nope, we’re doing a bit of a tour after that. Chris is flying out from London so we are looking to do as many shows as we can while he is here. So far we have Cape Town, Joburg and Pretoria confirmed. Keep an eye on our Facebook for more details soon: https://www.facebook.com/TweakSA
Do you hate hipsters and Dj’s?
Hahahaha! No come now, we don’t hate anybody. Sure we make fun of them in the song, but we also make fun of ourselves! Some of my best friends are Hipsters and Dj’s…I am even friends with a Hipster-Dj! Anyone who takes this track seriously needs their head checked.
What Songs are you going to play live?
Well that is still to be decided…Definitely ‘Birthday Card’, ‘Buy the World’, and ‘House Party’…then we’ll probably leave the rest of the set list up to a Facebook vote!
