Stage ready for young vocal diva talent search in Cape Town

On Saturday, 4, 11 and 18 June, the stage of the Amphitheatre at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town will be ready for an exciting new talent search, the Divas Unite Young Divas Singing Competition.

The search – to find the first ‘Young Diva’ to perform at this year’s Divas Unite concert on national Women’s Day – can be attended by the public and is open to talented young vocalists between the ages of 8 – 18.

From 2-4pm on Saturday 4 and 11 June, the audition rounds will take place where pre-selected young vocalists will each perform one song for the judges, Kim Kallie, Bev Scott-Brown and Adelia Douw. On Saturday, 18 June, from 2pm onwards, the final round will showcase the 10 selected finalists, each performing two songs. At the end of this round the winner will be announced to the public.

The winner will be invited to perform with a magnificent symphony orchestra alongside some of South Africa’s top Divas at the spectacular Divas Unite 2016 concert, due to be staged at the Grand Arena at GrandWest Casino on the 9th of August. The diva line-up for this year includes, amongst others, gospel singer and TV personality, Rouchelle Liedemann and young jazz songstress, Adelia Douw, the award-winning sopranos, Magdalene Minnaar and Lynelle Kenned, as well as seven-time SAMA nominated all-girl group, Blackbyrd.

Says event initiator and producer, Barbara Lenhard, ‘We are absolutely delighted to share this wonderful platform with our vocal divas of the future. The first Young Diva will have the opportunity to perform in the company of leading female vocalists, plus our very own Divas Unite Choir.’

Talented young vocalists wishing to take part in the competition can find more information online by visiting www.divas-unite.co.za and clicking on the ‘Young Divas’ option.
