Oh Dam festival update from 25 to 28 April

The Rockets, fresh from winning a prestigious award at the Ghoemas last week, will be one of the main attractions at the annual Oh Dam Music Festival.

The evergreen group won the award for their Afrikaans hit Namakwa Daisy, written by former lead singer Theo Watt. They received the Lifetime Contribution Award and also performed the song.

The Rockets, with new frontman Manny Losper, N2, Jeodhouse, Vuvu Khumalo and Donveno Prins are among the headline artists at this year’s Oh Dam festival.

The festival, hosted by Camissa Solutions and the Cederberg Municipality, will take place from 25 to 28 April and will once again celebrate the heritage of the Cederberg area and surrounds. Clanwilliam is one of the ten oldest towns in South Africa and is rich not only in settler history but is one of the areas that was inhabited by Africa’s first people – the San and the Khoi.

They inhabited the Cederberg from early times, leaving a rich legacy of rock art.

Clarence Ford, executive director of Camissa Solutions, believes that the causal and friendly nature of an event such as Oh Dam helps in attracting music and nature lovers because the people from the Western Cape really appreciate the natural beauty of the area. And Clanwilliam, beautifully nestled at the foot of the Cederberg Mountains, is certainly something to behold.

“Clear starry skies, fresh mountain air, and a safe place for children, the Ramskop Nature Garden which his host to a vast number of indigenous species of flowers… and music. That is what people come for and we take great pleasure in giving them just that.”

Oh Dam is a camping event, so festival goers can not only enjoy the natural beauty of their surrounds, but also some great music, with Zami, Koekie, Loren Erasmus, Uncle Cal & 3 Tons of Fun, Phakama Arts, Lee Stagg & Brent Krus, Mofunk, Jabez, Sugar Daddy, Ladgen’s Tribute Band, Dj Portia, DJ Rory and Stan the Jazzman also on the bill.
