Some experiences are enjoyable. Others stay with you long after you’ve left.
Our recent Myersย family spa day atย Sanctuary Spa Waterfrontย followed by lunch atย Terrarium Restaurantย at the Queen Victoria Hotel was firmly in the second category. It was one of those rare occasions where every detail came together perfectly.
From the moment my wife Razia, our daughter Casey and I walked through the doors of Sanctuary Spa, we understood why Newmark Hotels’ philosophy is “Experience Authentic.” Their aim is to create memorable experiences that reflect both the destination and the people behind itโand that commitment was evident from start to finish.
The spa itself is tucked away between the Queen Victoria Hotel and Dock House, creating a peaceful sanctuary despite being only moments from the bustling V&A Waterfront. It’s an oasis of calm where the outside world simply disappears.
What impressed us most wasn’t simply the quality of the treatments although the massages were among the finest we’ve experienced, but the genuine care shown by every member of staff.
Nothing felt rushed. Nobody was watching the clock. Instead, every therapist and every staff member made us feel that the day belonged entirely to us.
Sanctuary Spa describes its philosophy as combining ancient healing rituals with modern massage techniques to restore body, mind and spirit while ensuring “no detail is spared.” After spending several hours there, I can honestly say those aren’t just marketing words they genuinely reflect the experience.
Every touch, every welcome, every interaction felt carefully considered.
You don’t simply receive a massage.
You experience a journey.
You arrive carrying the stresses of everyday life and somehow leave feeling lighter, calmer and completely recharged.
Quite simply, they make you feel like royalty.
Like a king and queen.
After our treatments we made our way to Terrarium Restaurant, where the high standards continued. The elegant dining room, attentive service and beautifully presented seasonal cuisine provided the perfect conclusion to an already memorable day.
Terrarium has quickly established itself as one of Cape Town’s most exciting fine dining destinations, with an emphasis on thoughtful, contemporary cuisine served with understated elegance.
There is a wonderful rhythm to pairing a luxury spa experience with an unhurried lunch afterwards.
Instead of rushing back into the world, you allow yourself another hour or two to simply relax, reflect and enjoy good food with people you love.
Special thanks must go to Micayla and the entire Sanctuary Spa team.
After our visit my wife sent Micayla the following message, which perfectly sums up how we felt:
“Micayla, we have just finished lunch and cannot express how absolutely perfect our day was. The treatment from all your staff was extremely professional and the massages were heavenly. So much care went into our experience today. We all feel so relaxed and our family are truly grateful for this blessing. We appreciate the fact that you genuinely care for your clients and have gone out of your way to create such memorable experiences. We look forward to returning and can’t wait to experience the newly renovated Onyx Spa.”
Sometimes luxury isn’t about marble floors or expensive facilities.
It’s about people.
People who genuinely care.
People who understand hospitality.
People who create memories.
Sanctuary Spa succeeded on every level.
For anyone looking for a special birthday gift, anniversary celebration, family spoil, or simply a day to reconnect with yourself, I cannot recommend this experience highly enough.
Do yourself one favour.
Book the spa.
Follow it with lunch at Terrarium.
Switch your phone off.
Take your time.
Don’t rush.
Just allow yourself to experience what genuine hospitality should feel like.
Five stars. Without hesitation.
