If old-school is what floats your boat, Soul Sisters 2022 is where you want to moor your soul-filled boat on Saturday 24th Sept at Grand Arena at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town to see Sybil, and her Cape town 12-piece band, as well as a stunning line-up of the cape stars
The show will be hosted by MC Suga and the running order is: Andrea Fortuin, Claire Phillips ,Amy Jones, Mady Abrahams, then a twenty minute interval then Vuvu Khumalo and Sybil headlines the show with a 60 set of hit filled music.
I caught up with Claire last week ahead of the show. Her set includes the hits Spell on you and Little Things.
What is your job description?
There are so many but what springs to mind first is artist,musician,songwriter,actress and over all creative person
What does music mean to you?
Music is my saving grace, it is undoubtedly my purpose and passion.
My music is about…
Love and life and all the yummy bits in-between ,
And this is why my music is very relatable

If at first you don’t succeed ,try and try again and again

Fame is a bi product of what I do , ive never considered it until now when faced with this question

Where do you go for inspiration to create?
Everywhere I go there is always something that is able to inspire, inspiration is everywhere

That I absolutely love what I do

Spell on me ….without a doubt, people scold at me when I don’t perform it hahahah

My heroes are…
Lucinda Evans I absolutely adore her and everything she stands for.
Which living person do you admire most and why?
Again I will say Lucinda Evans, I have yet to meet someone so selfless and who helps everyone she comes across. She is a force to be reckoned with and yet in the same breathe she is one of the most gentle person I have ever met
What is your most treasured possession?
The ring my mummy put on my finger on her birthday this year 8 Feb, sadly she passed away 5 days before my birthday in March.
It’s your round; what are you drinking?
Makersmark Whisky on the rocks, short thin rimmed glass.
Dream gig to do?
Montreux Jazz Festival.
What makes you stand out?
My authenticity.

I recently just got one, those close to me call me flippy … I like it.
If you were not a musician, what would you do?
I would be a chef …..I love cooking.

This is an extremely difficult question to answer but if I think of what ive been experiencing the last two years it would be leandria johnson – deliver me

My fiancé Tasneem and our pitbull named Lily

Your greatest achievement?
Overcoming everything that was sent to drown me and break me down, my healing journey has to date been my personal biggest achievement and obviously my awards hahahahaha
What do you complain about most often?
That I am tired.
What is your biggest fear?
My biggest fear was losing my mom… now I am fearless

When she looks at me and I know I am loved and appreciated.
On stage, I tend to…
Sweat a lot , like I can stand still and sing and I still sweat this always makes me laugh im always wet coming off the stage
The best life lesson you have learned?
Even tho it was not my fault, it is my responsibility to heal myself

The journey of getting to know myself and my worth.
