If you are heading to Cape Town this December, then be sure to catch one of city’s most vibrant jazz festivals, Jazz on the Lawn Weekender over two days, 10-11 December 2022.
According to Calvin Peters aka Uncle Cal, a veteran promoter and DJ/producer (originally from Matroosfontein Elsies River), “This year we start Cape Town’s live jazz calendar early.
People no longer need to wait for next year for high-quality jazzy festivities. After the beating we got from Covid, we all (but especially our entertainers) need this. It is time to get out there and socialise again, and our musicians need to get out there to perform again.”
Uncle Cal is well-connected with several established and up-and-coming performers, both in South Africa and abroad and he is guaranteed to present a star-studded line-up. And since the Cape Town Jazz scene often has crossover links with the city’s Gospel scene, revellers can expect some jazzy Gospel vibes to kick off the Sunday event – officially called Legends on the Lawn.
The line-up includes top musicians, including:
Cameron Ward -played with the late great Bra Hugh Masekela for over a decade.

SAMA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, McCoy Mrubata

Claire Phillips
The Rockets
The Black Ties
Sammy Webber

Garth Taylor
Salome
A resourceful and respected jazz promoter, Peters is also very committed to uplifting his community. He says, “Presented by Kapzella Productions and Band Aid SA – the charitable organisation linked to my brand, which is geared at supporting artists/musicians in need – the Jazz on the Lawn is more than just another jazz event; it is also an opportunity to help local businesses and create some jobs for the performers/musicians and for a variety of event support staff.”
The venue is centrally located and can host up to four thousand (4000) people.
