The Matroosfontein Jazz Reunion shines a spotlight on the rich musical heritage of Matroosfontein, and the greater Elsies River and its surrounding areas.
The music festival will be held on 18 February 2023 with Jonathan Butler, Leslie Kleinsmith, Andrew Young from the UK, Afro Touch, Celeste Williams, Vuvu Kumalo, Mr. Magic, Theo Watt, August West, Donveno Prins, and The Groove.

In recent years, Elsies River and surrounding areas have again gained national music prestige, with The Voice national winner, Craig Lucas, from Matroosfontein and Idols SA winner Paxton Fielies hailing from neighbouring Bishop Lavis. Event organiser, Uncle Cal, says that the main aim of hosting an event of this nature in the heart of the community is to contribute to healing the hoods of the Cape Flats through music. He says that events like this go a long way to restore the dignity and preserve the heritage of our communities. This is an opportunity to commemorate our legacies and what they have contributed to our society.
The event is almost ten hours long with food stalls as well as a fully stocked bar and beer garden to quench thirsts throughout the day.
Attendees are welcome to bring along a beach umbrella, camping chairs and fold up tables whilst relaxing to watch the event on the grass pitch. Uncle Cal says he’s even providing a huge dance floor for those with itchy dancing feet. Come and celebrate Elsies River & Matroosfontein’s rich musical heritage on 18 February 2023 at the Elsbury Park School Grounds in Matroosfontein starting at 2pm till 12 midnight.
Tickets are R160 from Webtickets or Pick n Pay and R200 at the gate if not sold out. (Not for sale to under 21’s)
