Paris Toon on tour with Robin S on 27 May in Cape Town

Paris Toon is the billboard charting award-winning lyricist and musical enigma behind Mothers Favorite Child.

He is an extraordinary business entrepreneur, songwriter and producer who never seems to stray for a moment from his forward driven vision of success in the music world and beyond.

Paris started out as a hip-hop producer and has done production and remix work for many platinum selling  projects during his career.

His influences range from Prince, Quincy Jones, Sly Stone, Rakim, Omar, Bob Marley, Herbie Hancock and the Head Hunters.

These influences make themselves evident in his compositions and many of the lyrics he writes.  As newer artists came about, Paris’s inspiration grew in even broader directions while still holding firmly to the musical pioneers from the past.

His writing style has the genres of R&B/Soul, Funk, Jazz, Dance, Hip Hop and Rock to a level unfamiliar to most, provoking intense curiosity and appreciation for the “next phase of music”.

With these inspirational forces embedded in his spirit, Paris Toon has set out on the mission to push Mothers Favorite Child to the front lines.

Paris is the binding force of Mothers Favorite Child.  His Passion and “full speed ahead” attitude make it possible for those who work with him to focus on the most important thing; the song. Whether it’s music, art, fashion or business, Mothers Favorite Child is armed with everything it needs to propel honesty, raw and a holistic environment to to the masses.

What is your purpose?

My purpose is to use my gifts to be able to share wealth and knowledge to others who may have similar dreams and goals as I once did as a child.

What does music mean to you?

Music was the first experience of inspiration I ever had. It moved me in a way that nothing else had before. To be able to now create music and share it with fans means everything. It has also allowed me to support my family.

My music is about…

My music is about my life experiences. I write based off my experiences and or thoughts. My music is usually about love and heartbreak. Searching for your twin flame and the need to find your purpose and live in peace.

Fame is about…

Fame is manufactured by the machine. Fame should be about using it to help all in need, educating and building. Sadly that is not the philosophy behind all fame.

Retirement will happen when…

It is time for me to move on to the next dimension or wifey says… enough…

I don’t do…

I don’t do anything that has to do with lying, faking nor do I chase anything that is not naturally a fit for me.

Lenny Kravitz, Omar, D’angelo, Fiona Apple,,, there are so many.

I usually go to childhood memories, listening to old Prince or sometimes I may go to places where I know beauty resides. Cape town has been a source of great inspiration.

Creating with like minded, gifted people and seeing others appreciate my ideas.

The song you must do during every show?

Brooklyn Baby and or Dance 4 Me. Folks wanna dance and who doesn’t love the borough of Brooklyn?

Any funny moments on stage?

A few times our singers had forgotten lyrics and started to make up words but the crowd sang along so we just laughed and realized we couldn’t fool our true fans.

My heroes are…

My dad. He is the reason I am.

My style icon is…

Lenny Kravitz, Idris Elba. I strive to have that kind of swag..

Not really. I guess the letter “P” although I am sure some have some for me that I am not aware of… hehe.

If you were not a musician, what would you do?

Fries with that shake? I would actually consult for businesses. Making business more creative and helping others through their journey to achieve.

People… the lazy, selfish and deceitful ones mostly.

Peace.

On stage, I tend to…

Look out into the audience and see if they are feeling what’s being played.

The best life lesson you have learned?

Always listen to your intuition as it is God’s voice.. God’s voice should be heard over anyone else’s. It’s your protection and guidance for a healthy life.

What has been your favorite journey so far?

Watching my children use any advice I have given them to succeed. Having others thank and appreciate me for the music and lyrics. It feels good sometimes to know some things sacrificed pay off in other areas.

Do you do charity work, and if you do – what do you do?

Yes. I give masterclasses to students who want to be entrepreneurs or artists. I teach them the business side of music as well as the history of music as I know it. I also try to make it fun and interesting by treating them like an individual not just a bunch of numbers being fed the same old advice.

Wishes and dreams?

To one day be able to see more people playing instruments and writing for the love of it and not just for the fame. I hope to relax in my home with a lake in the backyard and fish. I hope to see my children grow and be able to inspire a whole new generation of kids into writing and creating music and art from their soul.
